(More customer reviews)I purchased this camera for my daughter who is taking a photography class at college. I've been a photographer in the past. I find this to be an excellent student camera; it can be used in full automatic mode or manual. This is also a great camera for someone who wants to take good pictures without worrying about using a lot of controls (f-stop, asa, focusing, etc.) It's nice that the lens that comes with the camera is standard in that it will accept screw on filters. Also you can purchase additional types of lenses. If you purchase this camera, ensure that you obtain the owners manual as it would be a challenge to learn the controls without it. Also, you will need to purchase a camera case or gig bag.

I found out if no User's Manual is included you can download one for free from the Canon USA website as well as other places online. Not all sellers include batteries or a User's Manual. Check the Comments of the seller's listing. This camera does have both manual settings and auto settings but it is helpful to have a User's Manual to know how it's done with this camera. Just visit the Canon USA website to download a free manual. Please read the comments of each seller's posting as there might be different options or accessories included with their sale. Otherwise this sale is just for the camera body and 35-80 lens combo. CR123 Battery required unless otherwise noted by the seller. With a dimension and weight of 145mm x 92mm x 62 mm, 370g, it is more compact and lighter than the comparing predecessor (EOS-1000FN/Rebel SII's 148mm x 100mm x 69mm and weighs 470g). The camera remains as an entry level AF-SLR. Many of the features embodied were carefully being chosen to be included in its features list. The basic business objective for the Rebel XS is to provide an affordable, compact, lightweight Auto and Manual SLR to attract potential first time user to select Canon as their base system. So, you can expect this SLR to perform at par or better than many other EOS bodies. Great film camera for photography students.
